To all my wonderful clients in 2010, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your business. I have loved every minute of getting to watch your families get bigger and your children grow up. I hope that 2011 is jam packed with blessings for you and your loved ones.
To all my friends and family who have felt slighted when I said that I had to work, THIS is what I’ve been doing.
Disclaimer: Not all of these are necessarily the best photos from a session. These are just some of the ones that make me smile.
The Christmas Card Photo: A mom’s desperate attempt to portray absolute harmony in an otherwise completely chaotic life.
My sister has four precious children, ages 6, 4, 2 and 9 months. And as you can imagine, there is never a dull moment in her chaotic world of Dora, diapers, tears, crayons, car seats, etc. But when it comes to her family Christmas card photo, she – like many other moms – wants that perfect, tear-free shot complete with love, laughter and smocked Christmas trees. To her, this ONE harmonious photo sums up her success as a mother, even though we all agree that her life is anything but ‘peaceful’ right now.
As a photographer, and without my own family to exploit, her Christmas card is my chance to pull out all the creative stops, no matter how dangerous or over the top it might be. After all, she is my sister, so she’s not going to sue me if someone falls off a ladder at that ‘picturesque’ barn or gets mugged by a homeless guy at the ‘ideal’ urban location. It’s really a small price to pay for a lifetime of free photography.)
Needless to say, with both of our reputations on the line (Cayce’s personal and my professional), we always put a lot of effort into getting this one photo. This year was no exception. Below is a ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse of what – and who – it takes to get THE perfect Christmas card photo.
In the midst of all the holiday mayhem, I wish you and your family small glimpses of peace and harmony. Merry Christmas!
